What is a GBP Score?
The GBP Score (0–100) measures how strong a business's Google Business Profile is — the listing Google Maps and the local map pack rank. It is the second score on this directory, next to the AI-Readiness Score (0–100), which measures the business's website.
Two different ways customers find you, two different scores:
- AI-Readiness Score — can ChatGPT, Grok, Muse, and Google AI find, read, and recommend your website?
- GBP Score — when someone searches Google Maps, does your profile have what Google ranks and what customers trust?
A business can be strong on one and invisible on the other. Both matter.
What is scored (100 points)
All inputs are public listing fields: categories/services, reviews, hours, phone, address, and the website linked from the profile.
- Profile completeness — 25 points. Street address 7 · phone 7 · hours listed 6 · website linked 5.
- Categories & services — 25 points. Distinct categories/services listed: 1 = 8, 2 = 15, 3 = 20, 4 or more = 25.
- Reviews — 35 points. Star rating: (rating ÷ 5) × 15. Review count: log scale, 500+ reviews earns the full 20.
- Hours coverage — 15 points. No hours 0 · weekdays only 7 · Saturday too 11 · 7 days or 24 hours 15.
What is NOT scored in v1 — and why
Profile attributes, photos, GBP posts, the written description, Q&A, review *responses*, and review *velocity* (new reviews per month) all affect real-world rankings — but they can't be verified honestly from public listing data alone. We don't guess, and we don't score what we can't check. Those items are verified by hand in a full GBP audit and are fixed under GBP Setup & Optimization.
The rules (same as the AI-Readiness Score)
- Published methodology — this page. If the rubric changes, the version and date change with it, and scores are re-run.
- Free rechecks, any time — ask and we re-run your score on fresh data and update the public listing.
- Same score publicly and privately — the score on the directory is the score in any report we send you. There is no "real" second number.
- Real data only — scores come from the business's actual public listing. Nothing is estimated or invented.
What moves the score
- Claim and complete your profile: address, phone, hours, and your website link are worth 25 points on their own.
- List every category and service that honestly applies — one category leaves 17 points on the table.
- Earn reviews steadily and keep the rating up: reviews are the single biggest block, 35 points.
- Publish weekend hours if you work them — Saturday coverage alone is worth 4 more points than weekdays only.
